Palletising or Palletizing is a process whereby a machine provides automatic stacking of cases of goods or products onto a pallet. It’s been around since at least the 1950’s but with 6-axis robotic arms and mobile robots now coming to the fore, prices have tumbled.
Manually placing boxes on pallets can be time consuming and expensive; it can also put considerable stress on workers and result in OH&S / WHS issues.
Robotic palletisers have an end of arm tool (end effector) to take the product from a conveyor or layer table and position it onto a pallet. The end of arm tooling has evolved in recent years to accommodate a variety of package types and patterns.
Depalletising or Depalletizing is simply the reverse of Palletising, whereby cartons or cases are taken off pallets and placed on to a conveyor or shelf.
Repalletising or Repalletizing is the combination of palletising and depalletizing whereby cartons or cases are moved from one type of pallet to another e.g. from International pallets to Australian standard pallets or European to International etc.
